Enteral Therapy
Enteral Therapy is the process of administering nutritional formula into a patient’s gastrointestinal tract by means other than the mouth. This can be accomplished via a gastrostomy tube (G-Tube), jejunostomy tube (J-Tube) or nasogastric tube (NG Tube).
A doctor places the appropriate apparatus in the functioning portion of the patient’s digestive system.
The nutritional formula is then administered through the tube by means of a feeding pump, bolus (syringe feeding) or gravity feeding. There are many different types of formulas that are designated to meet the nutrition needs of patients with varying diagnoses.
